A podcast that lifts the lid on school leadership, its pressures, its pitfalls, and the process we pay for keeping it all together.
"listening to this podcast has been a real game changer for me. It captures the real high and lows of being a head."

Jacqui is an experienced educational leader who began her career in 1994.

Jane is an experienced educational leader who began her career in 1996

Jacqui has spent over 35 years in education and still believes there’s nothing more powerful than a curious question (closely followed by a decent cup of coffee and a gym session). A lifelong champion of transformational learning, she’s dedicated to creating spaces where pupils and leaders feel genuinely seen, heard, and able to thrive.
Her mission? To spark curiosity, inspire courage, and keep reminding the education world that serious impact doesn’t have to come with a serious face.

Jane has spent her career leading schools, supporting headteachers, and navigating the joys (and occasional chaos) of primary education. An experienced Executive Headteacher, Trust Safeguarding Lead, and Catholic School Inspector, she’s now bringing her wisdom, wit, and well-worn leadership scars to the podcast mic.
She’s passionate about helping school leaders survive and thrive, whether that’s tackling safeguarding audits, raising attainment, or just finding time to breathe. When she’s not working with leaders or recording episodes, Jane can usually be found with a cup of herbal tea in hand, trying to convince herself that Excel spreadsheets are a hobby.
Alongside the podcast, we also work with schools and trusts who want structured, year-long leadership support .
Ongoing leadership, safeguarding and inclusion support for schools under pressure
Senior leaders are making high-stakes decisions in increasingly complex conditions.
This subscription provides structured, ongoing support across the year, so Heads and CEOs are not left carrying risk, judgement and accountability alone.
This is not CPD.
It is leadership assurance.

A practical self-review framework to support inclusive leadership, readiness and oversight, with optional light-touch feedback.
Clear, curated insight into inspection themes, emerging lines of enquiry and leadership implications, without noise or speculation
Follow-up reflections and tools that sit behind podcast themes, supporting leaders to translate insight into action.
Structured, facilitated sessions for senior leaders focused on decision-making, safeguarding, inclusion, complaints and accountability.
What is currently working across schools, where leaders are being challenged, and how attendance, behaviour and safeguarding intersect in practice.
Please reach us at contact@beingthehead.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No. This is leadership assurance.
Training tells people what to do. This supports leaders when they are deciding what to do under pressure.
No. While leadership wellbeing is a reality, this offer is decision-focused, not therapeutic. Reflective supervision sessions are structured, professional and centred on safeguarding, inclusion, complaints and accountability.
This does not replace Trust systems. It provides a safe, external thinking space where leaders can reflect on how those systems are landing in practice and make sound judgements with greater clarity.
Because leadership pressure is continuous. Schools consistently report that continuity and access over time are more valuable than one-off support purchased reactively.
That is expected. The value is not in usage metrics, but in access, assurance and availability when pressure peaks.
We do not offer short-term trials, as the model relies on continuity. Schools are placed in the appropriate tier, with a review point built into the first year.
The podcast is the public conversation.
This subscription is the professional support that sits behind it.
Schools typically code this as:
It is not positioned as wellbeing spend or CPD.

Includes full access to all briefings, tools and group reflective supervision.
This tier is offered selectively to support small schools carrying disproportionate leadership responsibility with limited infrastructure.

If this aligns with your leadership context, the next step is a brief conversation to confirm the appropriate tier. This is not about selling a product. It is about ensuring leaders have the structure and support they need to make confident, defensible decisions. contact@beingthehead.co.uk
